My sister wanted some dark brown socks for Christmas. So I promised to knit her some. This should be a pleasure, since she is my favorite sister (hee hee) and I like knitting socks.
All she had to do was pick out a pattern and measure her feet. All I had to do was knit.
She picked Cathedral from knitty.com:

I am making it in Cascade Heritage and for some reason the pattern in this yarn is taking forever to finish. It’s not that difficult, it’s just that something seems to be interfering with my knitting mojo. This is still only the first sock. I don’t know what is making it go so slowly, but Jen might get her Christmas socks by March, if she’s lucky!

This despite the fact that today is perfect stay-home-and-knit weather (6 inches of snow yesterday and overnight).

Finally, a shout out to the boys in blue: Top Five Reason the Colts Should Win Tomorrow:
- Strike a blow for the English language (what kind of slogan is “who dat”?!).
- Their Books for Youth program is great.
- The oldest guy ever to play in the Super Bowl is my age.
- As a born and bred Hoosier, who else could I root for?
- Peyton and his gang ROCK!

See that?

That’s actually sunshine, folks. It’s been a pretty rare sight around here lately.

The resident feline is pretty enamored of it too.
Another rare sight lately:

Finished knitted objects. This is a jacket for a co-worker’s new baby. With the craziness going on at work, new exercise routine (seven pounds lost so far!) and life in general, knitting has kind of fallen behind.
Part of the craziness is that our state has decided that it can’t afford to pay to educate its children. Therefore it will simply stop paying for school personnel. Those of us still with jobs will just have to do the jobs of those let go. My assistant is one of those. Therefore, while she will have no job next year, I will be doing two. All while the politicians complain what a horrible state education is in and tell us to test the kids more in order to fix it. What a nightmare.
I’ll get off my soapbox now. It’s Hockey Night in Canada, so I’m going to go watch NHL Network and knit to my heart’s content. I need to work on the socks I promised my sister for (ahem) Christmas.

The above question from a fourth grader as I entered school at 3:45 for a co-worker’s baby shower.
The answer: my poor kitty needed a trip to the vet. Lesson learned: It is a *really* good thing I don’t have human kids. Sure, the official reason is that they are demanding, expensive, energy-draining, inhibit travel and spontaneity, and I have enough children already at school. This is all still true. But I think we have also seen that, based on the worry level induced by a sick animal, if I had a real human being to be responsible for keeping alive I would be a nervous wreck.

Fortunately, all will soon be well thanks to a good vet and some nice antibiotics.
The day off also (fortuitously) enabled me to finish the gift for said baby shower. The co-worker is going with cloth diapers. As another co-worker said (and I think it’s an advertising tagline), “These aren’t your mother’s cloth diapers.” Here’s how they work these days.
So, what better gift than . . .

the traditional “soaker” / diaper cover. Items finished and photo taken 5 minutes before I had to leave for the shower.
